Electric traction systems for railway industry

We design and develop electric traction converters

CAF Power & Automation designs and develops traction converters for direct current (DC Converters) and alternating current (AC Converters).

Our solutions are modular, configurable and are delivered “turnkey”, specifying each and every traction chain component (filter inductors, brake resistors, traction motors adapted to every application....) in order to obtain optimum electronic equipment, adapted to each customer's specific needs.

The traction converter, developed with our own technology, underpins the entire traction chain, and its reliability determines vehicle performances and costs.

That is why we have followed the following design criteria in developing it:

  • Ample oversizing of the power electronics.
  • High availability based on equipment redundancy.
  • Solid and robust implementation.

 

This design provides easy access to the traction converter's internal components, meaning the equipment can be maintained properly.

By means of an optimised control strategy and application of the latest IGBT technology, our traction systems are designed to be more energy efficient.

We also have a modern laboratory at which we investigate new solutions and try out the equipment designed. 

Furthermore, these solutions are fully compatible with the COSMOS and ATENEA, systems, and can be integrated in new vehicles and those being renovated.

 

CAF Power & Automation electric traction systems are manufactured to comply with international railway standards and can be found in locomotives, trams, suburban trains and EMUs all over the world.
