CAF Power & Automation wins Metro de Medellin upgrade

Metro de Medellin will upgrade 42 metro with CAF Power Control & Traction solutions

Metro de Medellín, Colombia awarded CAF Power & Automation a contract for the supply of control and traction solutions for the upgrading of 42 3-car units.

Metro will retrofit the POWER 1500V DC traction system, along with COSMOS, CAF Power & Automation's railway control and communication solution.

The refurbishment of these vehicles built in the 90's by a Spanish-German consortium, will be led by CAF Engineering & Modernization, the CAF Group's business unit that manages the refurbishment and upgrading of railway vehicles.

CAF E&M’s integration expertise combined with CAF Power & Automation's technological know how on power and control electronics results in fully-tailored, easy to integrate and very competitive solutions in rolling stock refurbishment projects.

In recent years, Metro de Medellín has installed control and traction systems in 36 newly built Metro Units which are already providing revenue service.
This contract for the upgrading of 42 underground units makes a statement of Metro de Medellín trust in the reliability and quality of the solutions developed by CAF Power & Automation.

Metro de Medellín has provided the Valle de Aburrá region with one of its main public transit systems which is considered to be a community integration vehicle, and the company has gained public recognition for this project in several occasions.

The new contract reinforces CAF Power's footprint in Latin America.
The Company's Control and Traction systems for railway vehicles are already installed in Metro de Santiago de Chile (Chile); Belho Horizonte, Recife and Sao Paulo (Brazil); Metro de Caracas (Venezuela); Metro de Quito (Ecuador), as well as México DF and Toluca (México).
